The Overnight Resurfacing Peel was the Beautycounter product that brought me back after a stint during COVID lockdowns where I started to make my own skincare products. Here’s a secret… they didn’t work great. Sure my skin felt fine and looked okay and I wasn’t going anywhere so who cares.
But I was noticing a dullness and so the ORP was reordered and has been a part of my routine ever since.
Exfoliation is the act of removing damaged and worn-out skin cells on the outer most layer of your skin to reveal healthier, more vibrant skin cells underneath and there are two ways to do it:
- Mechanical Exfoliation – something that scrubs at the skin
- Chemical Exfoliation – something that works by penetrating the skin cells
Before you freak at the word “chemical” let me say this… technically water is a chemical. And I’m not trying to be a nerd about it because there are some bad chemical peels out there. And some women go for that but for me, I would rather not have a red burning face for three days when I could do something at home in my PJs.
Regular exfoliation can also help keep pores clear and prevent mild breakouts because dead skin and built up oils contribute to acne. Redness from rosacea and dry skin can be helped through exfoliation. It is also important for graceful aging because it encourages healthier skin cell growth.
As dry skin season approaches exfoliation becomes extra important. Every night our skin cells work to regenerate, we’re exfoliating all the time. If we didn’t we would molt like reptiles! ICK! Luckily for us Beautycounter has several exfoliation products that are safe, non-toxic and rigorously tested.
The Overnight Resurfacing Peel
This exfoliator is for you if you’re the type of person to picks out their outfit for the next day before bed and programs the coffee machine.
This plant acid based chemical peel works while you sleep to break down dead skin cells and nourish the new ones coming in. The blend is made of 15 different acids – 9 are resurfacing and 6 are soothing. Every other night after cleansing and toning (let the toner air dry) apply 2 pumps and then brush your teeth while it soaks in. Follow it with your night cream of choice (mine is the Countertime Supreme Cream) and wake up to fresh skin!
The All Bright Triple Acid AHA Toner
The New Kid On The Block
This exfoliator is for you if you’re the type of person who wakes up bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready to tackle the day. Or if you’d like to simply add a step into your daily routine.
Beautycounter released this toner over the summer and at first I was skeptical but boy do I love it now. This chemical exfoliating toner blends AHAs, beta hydroxy acid, kombucha and niacinamide to help exfoliate the skin, reduce the appearance of pores and reveal brighter skin in an instant.
I use this toner in the mornings or before a date night. I do not use it if I used the Overnight Resurfacing Peel the night before (that’s a little too much exfoliation).
The Reflect Effect Bamboobuff Exfoliating Polish
The Sneak Attack
This exfoliator is for you if you’re the type of person who is a sucker for 2-in-1 products, nesting baskets or tables or anything that can transform to be used in multiple ways.
NEW for Holiday 2022 this product exceeded my expectations. This is a mechanical exfoliating powder that you add to your favorite cleanser to manually exfoliate your skin while washing your face. Because it doesn’t have a chemical component you could do this on the same day as the other two but there is such a thing as too much exfoliating so maybe start by alternating it.
The Reflect Effect AHA Smoothing Facial Mask
The Jane of All Trades
This exfoliator is for you if you’re the type of person who takes their Sunday Self Care situation seriously.
This puppy combines a 10% AHA base (which is where most professional facialists start when you go in for a treatment) with water-system friendly bamboo particles for a chemical and manual exfoliation one-two punch. This mask is powerful, it works in 10 minutes (don’t leave it on longer!) and can be used 1 or 2 times a week.
- Gylcolic Acid: effectively removes dead skin cells for a brighter complexion.
- Phytic Acid: helps exfoliate buildup for a more even complexion.
- Bamboo Particles: provide effective, and satisfying, physical exfoliation.
- Saccharide Isomerate: a sugar-based moisturizer that combats dryness and soothes skin.
This mask is my go-to when I need to reset or if I let my Peel run out and I’m waiting for my refill to arrive.
Now it is important to note that your skin doesn’t stop at your chin! Beautycounter has two body exfoliators to add to your routine.
The Sugarbuff Body Polish
The Chicago Mom Favorite
This exfoliator is for you. Full stop.
This is my best selling product! Finely milled sugar combines with almond oil and sunflower seed oil for an exfoliating and hydrating experience. All in a lovely and energizing lemongrass scent. This stuff is great from neck to toe with a couple of extra seconds spent on elbows and heels and knees and any other dry-prone areas.
The Overnight Resurfacing Body Peel
The O.M.G. You Guys!!
This exfoliator is for you if you want to spend hours in a mud bath but can’t find the time.
I’ve long said that if I could take a bath in the Overnight Resurfacing Peel I would. Well now I get to slather this product from neck to toe and let it work while I sleep! I’ll wake up Benjamin Button style having sloughed off all that worn out skin!
This is available for a limited time only during Holiday 2022 but if we buy it, try it, love it and leave enough 5 star reviews they’ll bring it into the core line of products.
The Holiday set is paired with a quick-absorbing Tightening Boost Body Serum which helps to boost elasticity and visibly tightens skin over time. Ummm… yes please.
I have a spot for all of these in my skincare routine but pick the one that best suits you and start! You’ll have glowing skin all winter long and it’ll help you bring apres-ski-vibes to apres-school-pick-up.
